In 1891 The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews decided it would be a good idea to standardize the size of a golf hole. At that time their buddies at The Royal Musselburgh Golf Club in Scotland were known to have a newfangled device for making a golf hole...the first cup-cutter!
